Hosch 1200 sqm / 8

Iconic space reinvented.
Drawing on a set of unique assets, this approach was about creating both a fun and a functional space, that also provided a bit of drama to match the fabulous building. The concept was centered on the core business activity and being sympathetic to the core building fabric, whilst ensuring the end result was unique, impactful yet respectful of its environment and would stand firmly apart in its design.
The use of steel was intertwined with ply, and marble floors partnered with curved plasterboard forms while training space and breakout areas were developed around the idea of shipping containers, providing suitable sound insulation and separation. The double height space provided for a dramatic entrance with whimsical graphics, developed from the core business products, delivering a visual hint that although Hosch are serious about being the best in their field, they don’t take themselves too seriously.

When colour and form combine.
The issue was clear: Moving to a newly refurbished building gave ClearView the opportunity to create an environment that both integrated staff and reflected the company’s brand values of simplicity, consistency, authenticity and collaboration. Valmont worked closely with their branding team to design meeting spaces, breakout and client areas that translated these values into physical form, using colour, shape and sophisticated finishes through the building, whilst ensuring that the whole area functioned efficiently as a working environment. The central stairwell was created by cutting a hole into the existing floor slab – the Valmont construction team liaising closely with building engineers to ensure structural integrity was maintained. This feature serves as a key focal point while providing practical access for staff on the two floors.
1 Bligh Street 1637sqm / 8

1 Bligh Street is the next generation in premium grade sustainable office space – a building that integrates leading edge design, technology and sustainability throughout its 28 levels, and in one of the world’s most enviable locations.
Valmont was commissioned by Dexus Property Group and CBUS to design and construct a range of display suites on Level 17. These suites reflect the overall inspiration the building provides to its tenants, while optimising space availability, pushing sustainable practices and creating a positive working environment. Each suite is unique in its design, showing just how flexible the spaces are and demonstrate the many ways the floorplate can be utilised. Natural light has been maximised to penetrate workspaces, meeting zones, breakout spaces and the reception/waiting areas: through the use of glass, low height walls and vision panels, Valmont has ensured that views and light can be maximised in each tenancy. The finished result is best summed up as clean, sophisticated and progressive – all attributes that reflect the building itself.
Wesfarmers 2500sqm / 6

Wesfarmers Insurance has been an integral part of the 309 Kent St building for a number of years, and over time various fitouts have been undertaken without real understanding of how to embed the brand or ensure overarching visual consistency. Following expansion to an additional floor in the building, the brief was to plan and implement a new concept for their office space – one that encompassed the new floor and refurbishment of three existing levels, integrating Wesfarmers brand values with imagery and finishes. The new space was also to become a workspace that embraced the new way of staff interaction – collaborative, open-plan and enhancing productivity. This was achieved through creating a simpler, open layout enhanced with free-form workstations, collaboration areas, breakout zones and quiet meeting corners, while a blend of natural materials, subtle finishes and and striking highlights ensured an overall engaging experience for staff.

As a customer-centric business, iinet wanted to enable even greater engagement between its customers, the iinet team and the range of products and services available. Thus, the brief highlighted the need for a truly unique space that engaged customers with the iinet brand, translating its values into a physical environment. The space had to incorporate a number of different areas while maintaining a consistent level of service, reflecting the brand’s ‘cool’ factor and providing unique and immersive surroundings. The result is a dynamic, varied space that at once engages, entertains and even surprises customers while reinforcing the iinet brand experience.
Calibre 7500sqm / 6

With over 500 staff and a blank canvas covering 10 floors, the immediate challenge was designing a space that satisfied a range of specific needs whilst maximising overall workspace, blending the communal feel of an open-plan office with areas of privacy as demanded by commercial sensitivity. Dynamic meeting spaces which could easily alternate between work, meeting and informal lounge were all designed to improve teamwork and increase productivity, while internal offices were surrounded by team-oriented workstations, enabling the space to be broken up into intimate groups, employing unimposing storage units and informal workstation layouts. By breaking up the space in this manner, individuals are provided with individual and acoustic privacy whilst also being able to collaborate with their team. The whole space was subtly branded through the use of Calibre’s colour palette rather than explicit signage, with different floors being shaded with burnt orange, sky blue and moss green to integrate the mining influence.

Translating values into physical form.
Moving to a newly refurbished building gave Alinta Energy the opportunity to create an environment that both integrated staff and reflected the company’s brand values of simplicity, consistency, authenticity and collaboration.Valmont worked closely with their branding team to deliver meeting spaces, breakout and client areas that translated these values into physical form, using colour, shape and sophisticated finishes through the building, whilst ensuring that the whole area functioned efficiently as a working environment.

Engineering scientists are a particularly detailed group of people who have an intimate knowledge of their specific working environment, thus the challenge with this project was meeting their requirements as well as fulfilling the overarching brief of the executive team. A full floor in a new building allowed us to create dedicated spaces for each division, enabling staff to create their own sense of belonging and take ownership of their storage, layout and collaborative areas. Each of these areas was branded differently depending on the team while ensuring that a consistent overall visual language was retained. Providing services to the building was challenging, but Valmont partnered with the appropriate consultants to make sure the most cost effective and functional solution was specified and implemented. Delivered within a demanding timeframe, the end result is a fitout that the whole team is extremely happy with.

Casting a wider net.
The issue was clear: rapid growth in the business meant iinet had outgrown its working environment. Changes needed to be made to accommodate the expanding team. How was the issue solved? Valmont tackled the problem with two main design features. Firstly, a number of ‘ii-pods’ were created – ranging from one-on-one spaces of peace and quiet, through to airy twelve-seat conference rooms which encouraged group brainstorming. Secondly, an internal stair to link the floors was designed, joining the two main breakout spaces of each level; a strong message about the importance of work/play balance in the workplace. Cost was managed successfully by carefully assessing the function of each area during planning. Levels of finishes and detailing were then applied accordingly.
YPOL 850sqm / 6

Creating multipurpose space.
After several years struggling within a small office, it was time to modernise, consolidate and provide room for growth. YPOL had taken up a new office in a refurbished building and provided Valmont with the brief to transform it into a dynamic and productive working environment. Of critical importance was creating a front of house space that was comfortable being a reception area, a function space for ten and a social forum for a hundred: which Valmont achieved with the installation of full-width sliding glass doors and inviting timber flooring. The brief also required complete integration of the company’s new identity and that the whole project be completed in time for a forthcoming client function. Although an initial challenge for the construction team, the whole project was completed with time to spare – resulting in a happy client and a successful first function!
DEC and Ampersand 800sqm / 3

Two companies, one dynamic space.
The high end recruitment firm Ampersand and DEC – a PR company, were originally in Pyrmont, until a growing army of staff meant that a move was inevitable. Both wanted to create an environment that was welcoming, professional and sophisticated – and a real reflection of their brand values. As the front of house is where all of their business is conducted it was imperative to ensure this space was welcoming, comfortable to be in and beautifully detailed. Valmont achieved all these requirements by incorporating warm wood, glass and metal and highlighting these materials with inset panelling, premium fixings and plush soft furnishings throughout. Additionally, with client entertainment high on their list of priorities, a 4 metre sliding panel behind the reception desk was designed to glide back and reveal the kitchen/bar area – and at the same time create a large and engaging space for functions and gatherings.
Crescent Capital 700sqm / 3

From inside to out.
Crescent Capital is a high end funds management firm that had outgrown its space in the financial district. A move to larger premises within the Governor Phillip Tower gave Valmont the inspiration to create a classic, timeless fitout, combining a neutral palette and dark timbers with intricate ceiling detailing, elegant wall panelling and architraves. A strategically planned layout added to the overall feeling of an open structure internally while providing a natural line of sight out to the views of the eastern suburbs beyond. Subtle finishing touches were then added to reflect the client’s keen interest in surfing and all things nautical, carefully chosen to match the main materials.

Proving that two into one does work.
Being originally housed in two physically separate locations was becoming increasingly problematic as business continued to grow. Merging the call centre and corporate functions would help with their plans for improved efficiency and greater staff integration. Their previous offices included an inherited fitout that did not particularly suit their operational structure, so in moving to the new location they wanted to create an upbeat, energetic environment that truly reflected the Netspace personality and helped improve overall staff wellbeing.
Bridge Street 5000sqm / 6

5 floors, 4 stars, 1 delighted owner.
With 5 floors becoming vacant, the building owner commissioned Valmont to reinvigorate the spaces by refurbishing the lift lobbies, bathrooms and tenancy areas, with each floor needing to be completely gutted and refurbished. As an A-grade building, it was imperative to get the finish and quality right and ensure it remained competitive with other city space. Additionally, the building needed to uphold a GBCA 4-star Green Rating, so Valmont worked with the owner to select energy efficient fixtures and fittings for all floors, and upgraded the base building services. The top floor, Level 13, showcases the whole refurbishment, with a new staircase connecting its mezzanine to the lower floor. Part of Valmont’s recommendations for efficient space planning was to position this staircase to maximise useable tenancy area.
Pizza Mario 150sqm / 6

Recipe for success.
The visual impact of bold fiery reds combined with the earthiness of real wood achieved what we set out to convey: the passion and craft required to make a perfect traditional wood-fired pizza. Pizza Mario – a Good Food Guide rated restaurant – had relocated from Darlinghurst to the St Margaret’s Development on Bourke St, Surry Hills and needed to attract new customers by creating maximum impact at minimum cost. We were briefed on the fitout of the kitchen areas, bathrooms and dining space. Planning from the start was grounded in the core business objective of enticing young professionals and families with a fresh, energetic and memorable space.
Garden Brasserie 275sqm / 6

Oasis in the city.
Garden Brasserie evolved from the desire for a social space that breaks the standard mould of wine bars popping up across the inner city. Working closely with the owners from concept to implementation we have realised this goal, delivering a light, bright open space for daytime get togethers, and an intimate, playful space for evenings. Based on a European sunroom theme by day and an intimate garden party by night, the Brasserie accommodates the habits of patrons coming during the day or night, summer or winter, weekdays or weekends. A clever balance of furnishings, the creation of different atmospheres in different spaces and subtle integration of split levels all contribute to the success of the fitout.
